Challenges You Will Face While Studying Abroad

Share:

Studying abroad is a unique opportunity that allows you to grow personally, academically, and professionally along with a once in a lifetime experience. Additionally, countless other benefits are attached to this opportunity. However, you cannot deny the fact that it comes with so many challenges as well.

What is study abroad opportunity like for Indian students? The answer to this question is – it is not easy at all. But yes, anything that you go through is worth every effort. Most students have countless questions along with major concerns and minor queries about their host country.

The following are the challenges that you may face while studying abroad:

  1. Time Zone Problems

Trying to navigate two different time zones can extremely be frustrating. You always need to double-check what time is appropriate for which zone. You also need to make the habits of making phone calls late in the night or super early in the morning. If you have never been away from your family, you may also feel homesick and find it difficult to settle down and stay alone. To cope up with this problem, you will need to learn to handle your emotions in the absence of your loved ones.

  1. Accommodation Issues

You may deal with time zone annoyance but finding safe and pocket-friendly accommodation options are even tougher. Even though you may find an apartment within your budget, you cannot ignore the connectivity with your university. It is difficult for you initially to find an accommodation option closer to the university campus and with good infrastructure within budget.

  1. Financial Problems

Since study abroad is an expensive affair, you may face a financial crisis at some point or another. While checking the study abroad cost, do not forget to consider other determining factors such as tuition fees, living expenses, accommodation costs, cost of traveling, books, health insurance, etc. You may also require to buy a laptop or a personal computer to support your studies. When there is a financial emergency, it may become difficult for you to arrange funds on such an immediate basis.

  1. Conquer the Language Barriers

There are countries like the UK, Australia, Canada, etc. where English is the primary language. If you do not have exceptional language skills, you may find it difficult to settle down. It is because with language barriers, you will not be able to convey your message clearly and unable to understand others. To deal with this problem, it is good to take language proficiency tests like IELTS, TOEFL, GMAT, GRE, etc. These tests are designed to ensure that the students have exceptional language skills, matching the accent, pace, and tone of your prospective host country.

  1. Living Independently

It will be extremely difficult for you to manage cleaning, cooking, washing, etc. in the beginning if you are not accustomed to doing such tasks along with studies. Unlike India, it is quite difficult and expensive to hire a maid in a foreign country. For instance, in countries like the UK and the USA, domestic servants typically charge on an hourly basis. Hence, it will become nearly impossible for you to afford it. So, you will face this challenge. But with time, you will learn to manage things independently.
